What does ELOCOAT do?

History

In 1957 Norway launched the first production plant of Elopak. Elopak, European License Of PURE-PAK ®, is now a multinational with production facilities around the world and where more than 3.000 people find work. In the Netherlands, Elopak is represented since 1968, in 1983 that was expanded with Elocoat. Elocoat supplies the raw material (coated cardboard rolls) for the products of Elopak.

Elocoat is a so called extrusion coating plant, the coating of cardboard is done by means of extrusion. Extrusion is the melting of plastic pellets by means of pressure and temperature, and that happens in the so called extruders. When the production line was launched in 1984, the coated board production was 70.000 tonnes per year and the company had 70 employees; the production company had a 3-shift system. Today Elocoat has a capacity of 160.000 tons of coated board on an annual basis, the company has 102 employees and is working with a 5-shift system in continuous production.

Products

Elocoat offers two products; namely PE and barrier board. PE board is used for fresh, perishable dairy products like milk and yoghurt. Barrier board is used for products such as fruit juices, which should not be exposed to light and oxygen to keep them as long as possible. For this purpose the board is coated with a layer of aluminum or a special polymer.
